Trust me, I live here.
You can call me Anna S. and I live here in Portland, Maine. For many years, I worked in the heart of the Old Port, and so daily had the chance to meet and talk with some of the folks who visit Portland from all over the world. Where I could, I tried to steer them away from the chains and tourist traps and toward the “real” Portland – the Portland that those of us who live and work here know and love. My husband and I own a (slightly ramshackle) house here in the city, and we are raising our son here. We frankly couldn’t think of a better place to live (although I do wish I had a larger back yard).
I’ll try to be your guide to the best in local shops, local restaurants, and local attractions. I’ll do my best to make sure you go home without having purchased a “real Maine souvenir” that was made in China, and to do what I can to make sure you have a great time while you’re here.
I am not affiliated with the good folks over at Buy Local, or with any local for-profit business. I don’t write about these places because anyone pays me to. I just write about them because they’re the places I love.
If you have a tip, or just want to chat, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks for loving my home town!
